MTN CONDUCTED AFRICA’S FIRST 5G TECHNOOGY TRIAL HITB 20GB PER SECOND

MTN has conducted a 5G technology and applications trial at its head office in Johannesburg in partnership with Ericsson.

The announcement at the MTN headquarters in South Africa on
Monday comes after the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding at AfricaCom 2017, to collaborate on the rollout of 5G technologies in South Africa, one of the first of its kind in Africa, IT News Africa reports.

Some geek speaks: MTN received a temporary license for 800MHz of spectrum in the 15GHz band to conduct its 5G trial. The test achieved a throughput (data transfer rate) of 20Gbps with a latency of less than 5 milliseconds (ms), which is the highest achieved on a mobile network in Africa. The 5G trial is based on commercially available baseband hardware and 5G mobility is supported.

Speaking at the event, Chief Technology and Information Officer for MTN South Africa, Giovanni Chiarelli, said that 5G offered a whole new world of potential for South Africa and the continent.

He further said that “With 5G, remote healthcare through connected robots could offer world-class surgery in the most remote parts of the continent and the world. Self-driving cars could change the face of road safety, along with smart agriculture, smart mining and smart cities.

There is no need to doubt that 5G will offer the user higher speeds and lower latencies but to achieve this, we need the capacity that comes with additional spectrum”.

5G is knocking on the door, even though many of us are not yet used to the 4G LTE speed.

The capability of the 5G network as fast as to be able to transmit data up to 20GB per second, this is extremely  fast and moves the mobile experience to a whole new level

I seriously can’t wait for it to be out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
